Where Can Floating Wall Storage Solutions Be Used?
This question and others about floating shelves answered by our design and installation teams.
Floating wall storage solutions, either shelving or cubed shelves, are a fabulous practical addition to any home. Minimalist in design, they suit a range of interior décor schemes, from the ultra-modern to the more traditional.
You may be wondering the best way of using them. Here we answer some of the most commonly asked questions…
Where can floating wall storage solutions be used?
Frankly, these floating wall storage solutions suit any room in the home or the office. They are great for storing items in the bathroom, look stylish in the bedroom and offer a practical storage solution in the kitchen. Floating shelves or cubes can also look great in the lounge, perfect for showcasing ornaments or key focal points in a space.
They can stand out in terms of their design, colour and finish, or you can opt for ones that blend into the décor. The choice of how they look and where you have them installed is your choice!
How much weight can they hold?
Many people assume that because there are visible signs of obvious support, that the shelving itself will be flimsy and that it cannot hold any weight of significance. In other words, it could never be a bookshelf.
This may be true of mass-produced, shop bought floating shelves and cubes but with bespoke floating wall storage solutions, the strength of both the shelf, the supporting structure and installation is second to none.
How are they fixed to the wall?
Floating shelves and cubes need to firmly fixed to a strong wall so that they offer a strong, robust storage solution.
A shelf will need to be fixed at several points throughout its length onto the wall. There will be a strong fixing at either end of the shelf, and then equidistant throughout the remaining shelf length. This allows for several points of contact leading to a strong shelf, that is firmly fixed.
In most cases, there is a connection made between the bracket mounted on a wall and the shelf itself. This allows the bracket to be secured to the wall, and to also be secured to the shelf. This means that should it be grabbed, the shelf will not ‘slip off’ the bracket.
Can they be used in other design features?
Floating wall storage solutions can be used on their own or incorporated into a bespoke addition in your home.
For example, a walk-in wardrobe could have a series of floating shelves or cubes. Many people also add floating shelves to the kitchen so that they add much needed practical storage in such areas as the pantry, above the sink and so on.
