Organise Your Office and Get More Done

There are many things that thwart your productivity, and the environment in which you work is one of them.

Take a look at these hints and tips for organising your office, and increasing your productivity.

Home Office

#1 De-clutter

When was the last time you had a good sort out and clear up in your office space? When work is busy, at the end of a long day, it is tempting to switch off and walk away. But that means that paperwork piles up and things get put to the side to be sorted later. But you never quite manage it.

Set time aside to de-clutter, recycle and clear up.

#2 Create Work Zones

It may be that your workspace is relatively simple – all you need is a desk and a chair – or you may perform more than one kind of task in the workspace. If that is the case, zone the space so that you have different sections with different equipment to complete different activities.

#3 Put Things in Order

If you access the printer regularly, why do you have it so far away? Or, if you use different pens, doesn’t it make sense to have the things you use most and frequently closer to you?

Work out what needs to go where, and find a place for it.

#4 Clear Your Desk

If you don’t have the right office storage solutions, your desk will become a dumping ground. Only have on your desk what you need.

#5 ‘Waiting on Response' Box or File

There are times when you will have printed documents and the like that are important but are not in everyday use. It may be that you are waiting on a response from a client or feedback from a colleague etc. Have a space for things that need dealing with.

#6 Invest in Bespoke Office Storage

All too often, we think that a box is the perfect solution for storing things but, it isn’t. You may find with a de-clutter in your newly re-vamped office that what you are missing is shelving space or drawer space. And when something is missing, we compensate.

Or when we cannot compensate enough, we end up with piles of paper and magazines boxes full of things that we no longer need, not sure what to do with or, even worse, we lose something that is vitally important.

#7 Straighten Daily & File Weekly

Now you have a tidy workspace and bespoke storage solutions, there is no excuse – other than running out of time – to stay on top of a clutter-free workspace. Thus, straighten your desk daily and file weekly.
