How to Make Your Bedroom Grand
Investing in sliding wardrobes is all well and good but if you want a grand design to your bedroom, you need to follow some basic ‘design rules’.
Step 1 – The Colour Scheme
Mooch through Pinterest and you will see some fabulous bedroom designs that you want to emulate. But you need to recognise what makes them great. In the first instance, the main ingredient is that the bedroom follows a colour scheme.
For a simple room, start with dark colours on the lower half of the room and graduate to lighter colours up high. So white ceilings, unless you have super height bedroom, darker walls and then a darker floor – a dark rug on the floor will work just as well as dark wood or carpet.
Step 2 – Great Bedding
Frankly, to get the sumptuous bed look, you need sumptuous bedding and bed linen. You are not going to get the sumptuous bed look with a cheap, synthetic filled duvet. Think big – invest in duck or goose down (or a mix of down and synthetic filling), opt for big pillows and, just as important, is opting for great quality bed linen. The better the cotton count on sheets, the better it will wash etc.
Step 3 – Light
Natural and ambient light are important in the bedroom. Clearly, maximising natural light is critical but when it comes to ambient light, making sure you have plenty of options is essential. In other words, you want bedside table lamps as well as a stunning hanging light that offer different levels of luminosity in the bedroom.
Step 4 – Proper Scaling
No matter how big or small the bedroom, it needs to be scaled properly. So, match your furniture to the scale of the room. Hence, small rooms shouldn’t be swamped with furniture and large bedrooms need to have at least one grand piece of furniture. Don’t forget that your fitted wardrobes will change the scale of the bedroom and so the grandiose chest of drawers may look too large and imposing.
Step 5 – Well kept
Like a personality trait, this is hard to define but your bedroom needs to be a place of tranquillity and peace. If it is awash with clutter on worktops and floor, then it is not the calm space that you need. Quite often, what impacts on ‘tidiness’ is accessible and easy to use storage.
And what works for one person, doesn’t work for another. And this is why fitted wardrobes with bespoke interior storage solutions are the ideal solution for getting the grand bedroom you have always wanted.
