How to Create the Perfect Home Office

More and more of us are enjoying working from home, either with flexi-working from an employer or in a self-employed capacity.

Whilst this is the ideal solution for many, it presents a few practical issues, one of which is creating the perfect work space.

Home Office

What are the factors you need to consider?

1.    Choosing the right space

You may have a spare room or a space that you can commandeer as your home office. However, for some people working from home means taking over the kitchen table for a few hours.

In essence, you need to find the right solution for you, your work and your family. It is imperative that you have a space free from distractions and that is comfortable for you to work in.

If that means a fixed space in the home, such as the spare box room, that is great or it may mean you have storage space but have a nomadic work station, including working from the sofa!

2.    Storage space and solutions

You may work on documents that are commercially or financially sensitive, as well as accessing customer or client details. Just as in the office, you will be expected to keep this documentation private and confidential.

This means ensuring you have the right home study storage options and solutions. If this is the case, opting for bespoke and fitted home study office furniture can be a great way of creating an ergonomically designed work station, complete with appropriate storage solutions.

3.    A creative space

As a home worker, we can sometimes have ‘it’ll do’ attitude when it comes to setting up the office but, just like an office in a workplace, it needs to be designed in a way that accommodates how we work best.

For example, you may spend a lot of time designing and drawing and this means working on a desk that is suitable for your needs. Or you may spend the day computing or coding and again, the desk at which you work needs to offer the space and the right design.

4.    Minimal distractions

There is one downside to working from home – distractions. And, when you have a piece of work that you need to complete that you are not looking forward to, it is amazing how other household tasks become more attractive…

Distractions need to be kept to a minimum which is why the majority of homeworkers create a space that they enjoy working in – and that means a bespoke desk designed just for them, a comfortable office environment from which to work and ample storage that works.

What else do you need to be able to work from home?
