How to be Super Productive when Working from Home
For some people, the flexibility of working from home is almost too good to be true. But for others, the home is full of tempting distractions. If you want to be super productive, take a look at these tips…
#1 Set your home office up to be productive
If you plan on making working from home a regular feature of your working life, you need to set up a home office that is ripe for you to be productive in.
What does this mean? It means setting aside a space that can be used for a home office which can accommodate the equipment you need, from the basics like a desk and chair to more specialist stuff, like a drafting board.
#2 Get comfy
All too often, we work with customers who have for years, worked at a desk that is too small and wobbles when used, as well as a chair that was uncomfortable and not supportive. If you need to spend time sitting at a desk, then why not be comfortable?
#3 Take breaks
It is tempting with so much to do and little time to do it in, to sit at your keyboard and hammer away for hours on end. There is a well-defined school of thought that shows working in small batches of time is far better than trying to tough it out. And don’t forget, if you work on a PC, you should take regular and frequent eye breaks too.
#4 De-clutter (and do this often!)
Even though we all seem to be working less with paper, there are times when we do have things hanging around the desk and the desk drawers that are no longer useful. You need to be ruthless and de-clutter – and so often!
#5 Sort the storage
If you do have things you need to store away, you need a storage system that works for you. Here’s the secret to great storage: accessibility. The easier and more quickly you can access the storage, the better because you are more likely to put things away. For many of us, the key to being productive is a clear, uncluttered workspace - so make it happen!
#6 Work with purpose
Are you a lover of the to-do list? Could you be? Rather than just making a long, long list of things that need doing, prioritise the list as to the things you need to achieve today or in a morning session or during the afternoon. By doing this, you focus your mind on what needs to be achieved, whilst making sure you hit your self-imposed deadlines.
#7 Set a timer
There are some people who use a timer to give them the deadline they need to retain focus on their work. When you know you have 20 minutes to achieve something in, it is amazing the difference it can make!
#8 Get dressed
Working from home is great and for some people, this means sitting in their PJs and their slippers. Whilst this may not be a bad thing, there are some that advocate this is not giving you the right space to get work done. And so yes, you need to get dressed!
