Designing a kids bedroom with fitted furniture – on a budget!
Creating a bedroom space that is practical and functional for your children is important. You want them to be able to enjoy the space no matter what their age. You also want it to be adaptable, so as they grow, the room design is versatile enough to grow with them.
When money is tight, you may think that fitted furniture will be out of reach. Opting for fitted furniture for your kid’s room is a worthwhile investment, and won’t break the bank, and this is why:
#1 Versatile
No matter how large or small the bedroom, a child’s bedroom suffers from one major issue: storage or more accurately, lack of.
When they are young, it can be tough finding space to keep all their toys. As they grow older, the toys change as do the clothes and so on.
Fitted furniture is incredibly versatile in a child’s bedroom because as your needs change, how you use the fitted furniture will change too. So the shelving section that once housed a collection of the latest figurines, will now be home to make-up, clothes, books, secret diaries and more.
#2 Safe
Fitted furniture is also safe. Installed by a professional team, there is no danger of anything toppling if they do decide to climb to the top shelf – which we would discourage.
#3 A changeable look
As children grow, they want their bedroom to reflect their growing maturity too. But this doesn’t mean fitted furniture shouldn’t and can’t be fun.
The great thing about this kind of furniture is that the outer look can be changed. So, when the kids are small and they want pink, red and blue in their rooms, that not a problem. But as they grow and want something more sophisticated, like mirrored wardrobe doors, a simple transition is to change the doors.
And yes, it really is that easy.
#4 Colour the walls, not the furniture
The most expensive addition to any room, including children’s bedrooms, is the furniture – the wardrobe, chest of drawers, bookcases, bedframes and so on. Matching these items may be a cost effective solution.
Using the walls and ceiling is a great way of adding colour and when the time comes to change it, it is relatively inexpensive to do so.
#5 Wall stickers
Once you have the fitted furniture in place making the best use of space, you can start the process of choosing colours for the walls and so on.
At the moment we are loving the romance of wall stickers. Available to buy online, there are also some firms who will cut a specific shape, pattern, picture or wording so that it is unique to you. We love light pastel shades on the walls with metallic wall art. Gives an air of sophistication to a child’s room, as well as dreamy qualities.
Designing a childs bedroom on a budget with fitted furniture is a possibility, as well as a worthwhile investment for the future.
