CREATING TOP END FURNITURE SOLUTIONS FOR HIGH END PROPERTY RENOVATIONS

 

Period properties in select localities demand a certain design flair and a sensitive approach to ensure the success of a full internal renovation.

The owners usually have their own vision in respect of the layout and retention of character in the property. Sympathetic decoration and renewal of fittings such as doors, skirtings, facings and picture rails form the canvas from which the furniture, floor coverings and choice of artwork and lighting emerge.

One of our more recent discerning clients were clear on their vision for their Georgian ground floor city apartment and retaining the character of the property was of utmost importance to them. The wood surrounds, panel doors, highly detailed plaster cornices were all retained and where necessary carefully restored, and floor coverings were a combination of wood in bedrooms and public rooms and floor tiling in hallway, kitchen and bathroom areas.

A dressing room with fitted furniture to maximise the use of space was the desired solution to a corner of the master bedroom where the builder formed an open top partitioned area with a separate entrance door. A built in wardrobe arrangement for the second bedroom required to incorporate the central heating boiler with sufficient hanging, shelving and drawer space for their daughter’s needs. Finally a small area that had been a toilet was converted into a laundry store, again ensuring the maximum use of the space available. It was important that the fitted furniture not only maximised the use of the available space but complimented the colour of the floor coverings and the room surrounds, and the client’s vision for other furniture pieces they planned for the rooms.

                                        

Given the client’s brief and the fact that work commitments required that the client was unavailable for periods of time, draft designs were prepared in computerised image form and developed through email and showroom consultations until the layouts, storage accessory requirements and colours were agreed. Design advice and close liaison was maintained throughout the design process to ensure that every detail and customer requirement could be met. Suggested designs were reviewed, discussed and preferences implemented and illustrated until the final design was established.

Thereafter close liaison with the renovation contractor was maintained to ensure that the fitted furniture installation integrated with the surrounding works programme and completion coincided with the final finishing prior to client handover.
