How to build space-saving storage in to an attic bedroom
Many houses are gifted with cavernous attic space, ripe for conversion into a bedroom. There can be difficulties however, and in an attic bedroom, storage can be at a premium.
This is not because there is no space but because the space that is available can be awkwardly shaped, or difficult to get to.
This doesn’t mean that the attic bedroom will have a permanent storage deficit. What it means is clever design, match with clever fitted bedroom furniture, that is designed, created and installed specifically for the room.
Fitted bed with under bed storage
From sliding drawers, to small cupboard to a bed base that lifts clean out of its base, there are all kinds of ways to utilise the space under the bed.
In an attic room, the possibilities for where you place your bed can be limited thus it makes sense to have the bedframe as part of the overall fitted furniture scheme.
Fitted furniture can be bespoke, meaning it is made specifically to your requests and requirements and the space under the bed is storage too good to miss.
Opt for what suits you. Cupboard fronts work well, with internal shelving although some people prefer drawers as they can pull out the drawer and easily see what is in there. Or maybe you would like a combination of storage option under the bed? The choice is yours!
Awkward spaces = valuable storage
The attic room will have sloping ceiling and awkward corners but this doesn’t mean that storage should be at a premium.
It will be difficult to find ready-built or flat-pack furniture to fit these spaces – they’ll either be too wide/too tall/too narrow and so on. You have chosen to create a beautiful space in the loft so why not go the full length and finish the look with bespoke fitted furniture?
Awkward spaces are no longer awkward nor wasted when you have cupboards or shelving built into the space. Leave the shelving on display or opt for doors to hide your things.
Sliding doors = more space as well as accessibility
Storage is essential but often, getting to it, utilising it and accessing stored items is difficult.
There is a solution – sliding doors.
Sliding doors don’t need floor space to work and they can be constructed to fit in a space exactly. They also open fully so you can see what you need to find and you have the space to move things around. They come in a range of styles and finishes too.
Storage in an attic bedroom is plentiful IF you know how to utilise it to the best of its abilities.
