5 Autumn Home Improvement Project Ideas
The nights may be drawing in but that doesn’t mean DIY and home improvement projects have to stop. Take a look at these five great ideas;
#1 Make more of your entrance
The front of your property is the thing that gives off first impressions and yet, so many of us neglect it. As well as giving the front garden a spruce up, before the cold of winter sets in, sand down the front door, prime and paint it in one of the many fashionable outdoor plain colours.
As well as making it look on trend, consider adding draught excluder tapes and the like to make the door fitting tighter and less susceptible to draughts.
#2 Update storage options
Is there a home in the UK that doesn’t suffer from either a chronic shortage of storage or the wrong kind of storage?
Fitted furniture offers fantastic storage solutions because without putting too fine a point on it, you can customise them to suit your needs. Better still you can retain its versatility by opting to movable shelving and so on.
If you do nothing else this autumn, update the storage solutions in an often difficult area of the home to get right: the hallway.
#3 Bring in colour
The blue-grey light of autumn into winter changes how we see colours in the home – and the office too – which is one of the reasons why home interior designers suggest we bring colour into the home.
Choose warm tones, such as deep reds,along with yellows and oranges with a golden hue. If these are too bright, opt for a pinky-based grey for walls.
For soft furnishings, choose textured cushions, throws and rugs, opting for a lush, deep pile so you can sink into warm depths as the rain lashes at the window.
#4 Fancy a spot of upcycling?
Upcycling is the art of blending obsolete things together to give it a new purpose. This is not only environmentally excellent, it is also cost-effective.
Simple projects include things like turning a large pallet into stands for pot plants (sand down, paint and add wheels for easy manoeuvring) or make them into bedframe for the spare room and more. Take a look at scrapbooking site Pinterest for more great upcycling ideas.
#5 Start making plans for an extension
Spring and summer are the favoured times of year for making big structural changes but autumn and winter are the time to start preparing your ideas for any extensions.
This is because we spend the majority of our leisure time indoors over the colder winter months. And this brings home to roost the lack of or poor flow to the interior of our homes. Come spring, it could be a simple case of engaging a builder to move an interior wall…
