10 Spring Trends for the Bedroom 2017
The bedroom should be a place to relax and unwind after a long day. It should be the epitome of comfort and style, as well as being practical. So, what do the spring trends this year have lined up for the bedroom?
#1 Wallpaper is Back - and it's Big
If you are a wallpaper connoisseur you will be delighted at the return of bold patterned wallpaper. Choose a neutral headboard and sliding wardrobe doors to complement the finish.
#2 Mix it Up
There is a penchant this spring for not having everything too perfect. Opt for coordinated linens and fabrics, and then introduce something into the space that stands out, like a fun cushion or two.
Interior designers have noticed a change in the attitude of their clients towards what they consider to be boudoir magic. Serenity is the new style and that means keeping everything neutral and toned down, from wall colour to bedding to sliding wardrobe doors. No fuss, no clutter.
#4 Fresh Flowers
Simple, effective and affordable. If you make no other changes to your bedroom this spring, do this: introduce a vase of fresh flowers into the space to make it glow with the freshness of spring.
#5 Multi-purpose spaces
If space in your home is under pressure, you may find rooms take on dual personalities. And the bedroom is no exempt. With more and more homeowners using the bedroom for other activities other than relaxing, interior designers suggest embracing this and creating a dual personality room.
How many times have you argued over who is to wander down to the kitchen of a morning to make the morning coffee? How about making coffee with the flick of a button on a remote to kick the coffee maker into life? There are tea machine options too. Think convenience but choose a machine and cups with style.
#7 Custom Headboard
Headboards can be expensive and when they all look and feel the same, they can be somewhat of a disappointment. Either create your own customised headboard or commission a top design company to create one for you.
#8 Calming Colours
Nothing bright. Nothing bold. Even the dramatic, bold wallpapers mentioned in #1 are bold in pattern, but not colour.
#9 Think Gold and Brass
For accessories, turn up the warmth in the bedroom with brass-effect or gold-effect accessories. From lamps to candelabras, the warmth of gold is a delight.
#10 Original. Expressive. You
For too long, say designers, our homes have been decorated and accessorised in accordance with what manufacturers told us were on trend or in fashion. ‘No more!’ say designers and if there is one room that should be a true expression of you, it is the bedroom.
